DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 10, 2020) – In what would have been the annual outstanding student awards convocation this week, Daytona State College today honors 175 students along with three employees.

“During this unprecedented time, I think it’s important to continue the tradition of acknowledging our academic award winners as they make greater accomplishments and advance along their career pathways. These hard-working students are focused on their success and we are honored to highlight their achievements,” stated President Tom LoBasso.

Students are recognized for their academic, community service and athletic achievements. Among the award winners, 26 are named to the Falcon Engagement Award program and 14 are inducted into the College’s Hall of Fame – the highest honor the faculty can bestow upon a student.

Induction into the College’s Hall of Fame is based on the highest standards of excellence in scholarship, leadership and citizenship. The 2020 inductees are: Giavanna Auricchio, Hannah Baker, Tammy Cruz, Elizabeth Dilger, Carla Hernandez, Alex Moker, Melinda Moscoso, Breanna Nax, Heather Osterhouse, Maylin Rodriguez, Sue Small-Kreider, Hilton Smith, Peyton Thompson and Paris Williams.

Selection to the Falcon Engagement Award program is based upon academic excellence as well as contributions to the College and the community. Since 1999, a faculty member has been selected to receive the Presidential Teaching Excellence Award. This year’s recipient is Dan Biferie, chair and senior professor, School of Photography, who has been with the college since 1975.

Will Dunne, Dean of the School of Health and Wellness and Athletic Director, and Tara DeBloom, administrative assistant, Academic Affairs, received Employee Excellence awards.
