DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 24, 2012) - Dozens of Daytona State College’s certificate and two-year programs rank highly in placement rates tracked by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE), with a diverse field of disciplines placing 100 percent of students in the most recent reporting period.

The college also showed impressive numbers in the percentage of graduates whose disciplines require them to pass state or professional licensure examinations in order to become employed.

The FLDOE’s Florida Education and Training Placement Information Program (FETPIP) is a data collection and consumer reporting system established by Florida Statutes to provide two-year follow-up data on students who have graduated, exited or completed a state public education or training program. The most recent reporting period tracked a cohort of nearly 2,000 2009-2010 graduates.

The agency defines placement as those who are employed two years after graduation, serving in the military or continuing their education. Daytona State scored 100-percent placement in 42 programs that include fields such as health care, computer science, engineering, business, hospitality and tourism, public safety and various trades. The college’s placement rates fared better than the combined averages of its Florida College System counterparts in 65 of 103 programs reported during 2011-2012. Details of individual program placements can be found at http://www.fldoe.org/fetpip/ccs.asp.

Additionally, 12 of the 17 workforce training programs the college offers that require graduates to take professional licensure exams prior to becoming employed had passing rates of 90 percent or better during 2010-2011, the most recent reporting year. The measure tallies the percentage of program graduates who passed their exams on the first attempt. Programs with exam passing rates of 90 percent or above included:

•         Corrections – 90 percent
•         Cosmetology – 95 percent
•         Dental Hygiene – 100 percent
•         Firefighting – 95 percent
•         Massage Therapy – 93 percent
•         Medical Assisting – 94 percent
•         Associate Degree Nursing – 94.7 percent
•         Occupational Therapy Assistant – 91 percent
•         Paramedic – 99.2 percent
•         Physical Therapy Assistant – 100 percent
•         Practical Nursing – 98.5 percent
