School of Adult Education Student Requirements and Expectations

Your Responsibilities as a Student
By choosing to be part of the Daytona State College community, you agree to uphold the College’s Code of Conduct. This includes respecting others, staying informed about academic policies, and meeting important deadlines. You can access the most current version of the Student Handbook here.

CASAS Testing: A Step in Your Progress
To help us support your learning effectively, CASAS post-testing is required for all students:

  • Once a student reaches 70 instructional hours, they must complete CASAS testing before reaching 100 instructional hours.
  • Failure to complete testing before reaching 100 hours will result in withdrawal from the program.
  • You can view Testing Center information here.

Attendance Policy
At the School of Adult Education, we believe that consistent attendance and active participation are essential to student success. Attending class regularly and arriving on time supports your goals and contributes to a positive learning environment.

All students are expected to arrive on time and remain engaged for the entire duration of each class session, including computer lab time.

Arriving late, leaving early, or stepping out of class for more than 15 minutes will result in the student being marked absent for that class meeting.

  • Students in ESOL, Adult Basic Education (ABE), or the GED® Preparation program may miss up to five (5) class meetings per term (A/B).
  • Students in an IET program may miss up to five (5) class meetings per semester (Spring, Summer, Fall).
  • A sixth (6th) absence will result in withdrawal from the program.
  • The School of Adult Education does not offer excused absences. This means that all absences count the same, regardless of the reason.

Tracking Your Absences
Students are encouraged to stay informed about their attendance. At any time, you may ask your instructor or a School of Adult Education staff member for your current absence count.

Re-Enrollment After Withdrawal
Students who are withdrawn due to attendance may enroll again in a future term unless a hold has been placed on their account because of attendance issues across multiple terms. Students with a hold must resolve the issue with School of Adult Education staff before re-enrolling.

If you are experiencing challenges that may affect your ability to attend class consistently, please speak with your Program Manager as early as possible. While absences cannot be excused, we are committed to supporting you and helping you stay on track whenever possible.
