Who We Are
The Photography program offers the technical instruction and theoretical knowledge in photography to assist graduates in successfully entering the commercial, editorial, advertising, fine arts and photo technology fields. Coursework covers digital photography and videography as well as the medium’s history and aesthetics to prepare photographers as visual communicators.
Some program specific courses you will take include: Photography and Image Making; Videography; Digital Image Processing and Applications; Commercial/ Illustration Photography; History and Aesthetics of Photography; Photography as an Art Form; Editorial Photography; Professional Photographic Business Practices; and Professional Studio Portraiture. Workshops, lectures and guest artists enhance the intense and progressive curriculum, giving students opportunities to explore the world of photography.
Daytona State College meets the challenges of a rapidly changing creative environment with a program that stresses the fundamental aspects of photography from which to grow into a myriad of photographic expertise. The program offers the highest level of technical proficiency and professional judgment for providing a broad understanding of the techniques, ideas and skills needed in the profession today.

Earn your A.S. and B.S. Degree
Successful completion of the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree can lead to a seamless transfer to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in photography through a partnership with the University of Central Florida. All classes needed to complete the bachelor’s degree program may be taken in shared facilities on the Daytona State Campus with cross-level instruction by faculty from both institutions. Some program specific courses students take are; Advanced Digital Photography; Photo Visualization; Videography; Narrative Editorial Photography; Image, Culture and Society; Museum and Gallery Practices; and Photography Thesis.

Southeast Center for Photographic Studies
For more than 50 years, Daytona State College; Southeast Center for Photographic Studies graduates have taken their place among the leading photographers of the nation. In the early years, few programs in the country were able to offer the range and depth of instruction that provided the foundation for these stellar careers. The department grew into the largest, most comprehensive photography program in the southeast.

On the set of the film titled “Being Black” directed and produced by Eric Breitenbach, a retired professor from the photography department. Eric collaborated with several other departments, teachers, students and the WDSC-TV station on campus to make the film. The crew consisted solely of students and teachers to make this film.
Every semester the photography department holds a “Portfolio Night” in the building where students showcase the best work from all the classes and invite family and friends to the event. Visitors are pictured here discussing portfolios.
