MEDIA ALERT
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (January 14, 2025) – Daytona State College will host a ribbon cutting for a new Firearms Training Range on the DeLand Campus at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 16.
The Firearms Training Range is the first phase of the College’s plan to transition all programs under the Charles M. Curb School of Emergency Services to a new Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Training Center on the DeLand Campus. The programs have been held at DSC’s Advanced Technology College in Daytona Beach since 2012.
The 20,000-square-foot facility features 15 firing lanes, a classroom and an observation area. The state-of-the-art indoor firing range will provide recruits in DSC’s Law Enforcement Academy and Corrections program with all-weather training capabilities, enabling them to achieve the highest levels of firearms proficiency. It stands as the most modern and advanced facility of its kind in Central Florida.
The State Legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis allocated $6.2 million to fund this project.
Daytona State is nearing completion of a vehicle driving pad, tactical training pavilion and physical training track. This summer the College will begin renovation of Buildings 1 and 8 on the campus, which will include classrooms, patient simulators and virtual reality training facilities for the School’s first responder programs.
When the transition from the Advanced Technology College is complete, the Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Training Center will be home to up to 240 law enforcement recruits, 70 corrections officer recruits and 250 Emergency Medical Technician and paramedic students annually.
Speakers at the ribbon cutting will include:
- Dr. Tom LoBasso – President of Daytona State College
- Bob Lloyd – Vice Chair, Daytona State College District Board of Trustees
- Evan Doyle – Director, Charles M. Curb School of Emergency Services
