Update to DSC Students – Friday, June 5, 2020
Dear Daytona State College Students,
These past few weeks have been a tumultuous time in our nation’s history. Hate, discrimination, and injustice in any form is unacceptable. Diversity and inclusiveness are integral to our core values and Daytona State College confirms our longstanding and ongoing commitment to making sure every student feels welcome, empowered, and safe.
We are a family and all of our students, faculty and staff are part of this family. As the pandemic has proven, the DSC family is strong and exists beyond the bricks and mortar of our physical campuses. We want to emphasize the importance of staying connected and supporting each other as we move forward together.
On our transition towards the future we continue to plan to bring back services and classes to students in a modified face to face environment. Last week’s announcement of the Summer B hybrid courses has been well received and students are already registering for these blended classes. Overall, the phase in has been going well as career and technical classes that were suspended in the Spring have been back in session for several weeks. I appreciate how students, faculty and staff are adjusting to the new enhanced safety protocols and working diligently to keep each other healthy and safe.
Next week, we will reach another critical step forward as we begin accepting small numbers of appointments for campus tours and student services departments, and the bookstore will reopen with limited capacity. Although we don’t know exactly how collegiate sports will look in the fall, we do know that we want to be ready, therefore Athletics will also begin recruiting new student-athletes next week by appointment only.
Stay safe and healthy.
Thomas LoBasso, Ed.D.
President, Daytona State College
