FEB. 28, 2020 -- Daytona State College is continuing to monitor the current outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19. So far, no coronavirus cases have been reported in Florida. However, College officials have procedures in place to respond to student, faculty and staff needs should the situation change.
The Florida Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are monitoring the situation and are working to ensure that the most up-to-date guidance is quickly and accurately disseminated to local partners, including DSC.
The CDC website is a good source of information for best practices for preventing or containing the spread of COVID-19 as well as the flu. Some of those steps include:
- Frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at 60% alcohol. (It is especially important to clean your hands after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.)
- Avoiding close contact with those who are sick.
- Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- Staying at home when you are sick.
Finally, as we approach spring break, please be aware if you are traveling and take precautions as necessary. The College will continue to communicate with you regarding this matter as needed, and you can find more information from the CDC resources and the World Health Organization.
