FCCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week
November 23, 2010
Meghan Perkins, Pensacola State
Sophomore – Guard/Forward – Montgomery, Ala.
Pensacola State College’s Meghan Perkins is this week’s FCCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Perkins, a sophomore from Montgomery, Ala., averaged 19.3 points, 13.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals during a 3-0 week for the Lady Pirates. Perkins reached double-figures in rebounds in all three outings, including a 17-rebound effort against Baton Rouge on November 16. She followed that with double-doubles in what proved to be Pensacola State’s toughest tests of the season. Against Vincennes on November 19, she recorded 31 points and ten rebounds in the Lady Pirates’ 108-103 overtime victory. The next day, her 23 points, 12 rebounds and six steals helped Pensacola State to a 77-63 win over Georgia Perimeter. For the week, Perkins shot 73.3 percent (22-of-30) from the floor and 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the charity stripe.

FCCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week
December 7
Ariel Easton, Palm Beach State
Freshman – Guard – South Bend, Ind.
Palm Beach State College’s Ariel Easton is this week’s FCCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Easton, a freshman from South Bend, Ind., averaged 24.3 points, thanks to three straight 20+ point outings last week for the Lady Panthers, who went 2-1. After a 21-point effort against ASA on November 30, Easton scored 27 and 25 points on consecutive days against Florida State College at Jacksonville and Tallahassee, respectively, at the Florida College’s Women’s Basketball Shootout. Easton hit five three-pointers in each of the three games and shot 53.6 percent from the three-point stripe for the week. She also shot 56.1 percent (23-of-41) overall from the floor, 80.0 percent (12-of-15) from the free throw line and averaged 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocks.
Other notable performances:

FCCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Mekiala Qualls, Daytona State
Sophomore – Center – Pensacola, Fla.
Daytona State College’s Mekiala Qualls is this week’s FCCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Qualls, a sophomore from Pensacola, Fla., averaged 11.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in three games for the Lady Falcons. In a top-ten battle against St. Petersburg on December 8, Qualls tallied 12 points and five rebounds. Her solid play continued through a pair of games at last weekend’s Crown Plaza Classic, hosted by Brevard Community College. Against Broward on December 10, she scored 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting and pulled down eight rebounds. The next day, she scored six points but enjoyed a double-digit rebound effort, snagging 11 boards against Central Georgia Tech. For the week, Qualls shot 53.1 percent (17-of-32) from the floor and her 1.3 blocks per game aided Daytona State’s stingy defense, which held its two weekend opponents to a 27.0 percent field goal percentage.

Pensacola State College’s Jessica Merritt is this week’s FCCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Merritt, a sophomore from Talladega, Ala., averaged 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals in two Panhandle Conference games. At No. 3 Chipola on January 11, Merritt’s double-double – 23 points and 10 rebounds – helped the top-ranked Lady Pirates to a 73-66 win. Four days later, she scored 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting and added six rebounds, six assists and six steals, leading Pensacola State to a 92-84 come-from-behind victory over No. 4 Gulf Coast. For the week, Merritt shot 65.6 percent (21-of-32) from the floor and 70.0 percent (7-of-10) from the free throw line.

Santa Fe College’s Leandra King is this week’s FCCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. King, a sophomore from New Carrollton, Md., averaged 12.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in two Mid-Florida Conference games last week. Against Central Florida on January 24, King tallied 14 points, five rebounds and two blocks, which added to her totals as the FCCAA’s leading shot blocker in 2010-11, as well as Santa Fe’s best all-time. Two days later, her double-double- 10 points and 12 rebounds – led Santa Fe to a victory over Florida State College at Jacksonville and kept the Lady Saints atop the MFC standings.
