APPLYING AS A TRANSIENT STUDENT
Incoming transient students are students seeking a degree at another college or university and would like to take courses at Daytona State College on a temporary basis. Transient admission is for one semester only. Once the courses are completed at DSC, students are required to order and pay for their official Daytona State transcript to be sent back to their home institution.
Course Search will help with which courses are available at DSC.
Note: If you are currently a student at another institution and want to seek a degree at Daytona State, you are considered a Transfer Student, not a Transient Student. You will need to complete an application for admission.
Florida public community college, state college, and university students: You will need to complete the Transient Student Application through FloridaShines. Your application will be processed through your home institution, then by our Admissions office. Your approval process can be monitored through your FloridaShines account.
If you are attending any college or university other than a Florida public institution, you will need to complete a college credit application for admission as a transient student. In addition to completing the online application, a copy of your transient approval form or letter from your home institution will be required upon registration. By signing the transient approval form, your home institution is verifying you meet the pre-requisites for the course(s) being approved.
REGISTERING FOR COURSES
As a transient student, you will be able to register for classes on the first day of open enrollment through the last day of the add/drop period on the College Academic Calendar. Transient students can register online through their MyDaytonaState student portal as long as the course(s) for which they register do not have any pre- or co-requisites. Please be aware that you are responsible for selecting and registering for the correct classes. If the course has a pre- or co-requisite, or if it is more convenient for you, you may register in person at any Daytona State campus or by emailing the Question and Answer Center.
Daytona State authorization does not guarantee you a seat in your requested course(s). You are approved pending availability at the time you register. Additionally, some courses may be part of a limited access program and require additional department consent to enroll (i.e. verifying your credentials to determine your ability to successfully complete the course). You will be notified if the course(s) you have selected are unavailable or require additional consent.
PAYING FOR YOUR CLASSES
Log in to your MyDaytonaState student portal to determine your course fees for the semester and your payment due
date. You can pay your tuition and fees at any campus Student Accounts Office or online
on your MyDaytonaState student portal. Accepted forms of payment are: cash, debit cards, personal checks,
American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa.
Please note: A student's financial aid cannot come to two schools at the same time. Therefore, all transients will initially need to pay for their classes out of pocket. If you qualify for aid, your home school will reimburse you after the Add/Drop Period ends and your aid has posted to your home institution. There is a place on the FloridaShines application to indicate if you have financial aid; if you do not apply via FloridaShines, please obtain a consortium agreement from your home institution's financial aid office. Then, bring the completed agreement to Daytona State's Financial Aid Office. Please direct any questions regarding financial aid to your home school.
TRANSFERRING CREDIT BACK TO YOUR SCHOOL
Once your course is completed, you will need to order an official transcript from DSC, requesting your transcript be sent to your home institution once grades have posted. A payment of $5 will be required during the online ordering process. Your school will not receive notification of your earned grade or credits if you do not place and order for your official transcript.
