Falcons Beat Hillsborough A Second Time this Season
The Daytona State Falcons held Hillsborough Community College scoreless for the first 4 minutes, jumping out to a quick 10-0 lead over the Hawks in Saturday afternoons' second match-up of the season between the Falcons and Hawks. The Hawks rallied to a three point deficit and trailed the Falcons 30-33 at the half.
The Falcons were led by Tanksley Efianayi. He scored 28 points and added 13 rebounds, while shooting 48% from the field. Paris Clayton chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds, and had just 1 turnover while logging 38 minutes for the Falcons.
The Hawks were led by an impressive 31 points from John Wallace Jr. and took the lead 36-35 early in the second half.
That would be the Hawks only lead of the game. A Will Ransom (7 points, 11 rebounds) thunderous dunk jump-started the Falcons second half run. Despite the Hawk's hot shooting by Wallace, the Falcons were able to push the lead 10, with just under two minutes to play.
Hillsborough got as close as 6, but the Falcons refused to relinquish the lead. Daytona State behind their #6 nationally ranked defensive, held the Hawks to 35.8% from the field. The Falcons closed out their 73-65 victory by hitting 7 of 10 free-throws down the stretch.
"We got better tonight. We didn't shoot the ball great, we gave up 31 to Wallace, we missed too many free-throws early, but we stuck together, played as a team, and found a way to win tonight," said Coach Ridder.
"Tank was a warrior for us, you can't say enough about his effort level tonight. Ayinde got into foul trouble and our bench stepped up. Mark, Christian, and Taylor all gave us big minutes. We ended the night with only 3 turnovers and a plus 8 rebounding margin. These stats will give us a chance every night."
The Falcons will return to action, at home, December 2nd, 7pm against TAAG Academy.
