DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (10/01/09) - Learn more about CakeLove founder and host of the Food Network’s “Sugar Rush” program, Warren Brown, during a presentation of the Entrepreneurial Speaker Series, Tuesday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m.
In 2000 Warren Brown left his career as a lawyer litigating health care fraud on behalf of the federal government to pursue a dream and start a business. Sensing that people wanted better cake, he founded CakeLove and opened for business in 2002. With a lot of hard work and positive word-of-mouth advertising Brown grew his business from a moonlighting project into seven thriving bakeries.
In 2006 he was recognized for his entrepreneurial passion by the Small Business Administration and given the Small Business Person of the Year award for Washington, DC. CakeLove has won numerous "best bakery" readers polls from the Washingtonpost.com, Washingtonian, and other news organizations.
Brown loves developing new recipes and products that are sold through his bakery and café, posted on-line in podcasts or included in his cook book, CakeLove. His career path has been anything but normal, and that adds to a lot of the excitement in the sweets he creates. He also contributes his free time and energy to charitable causes by speaking to young students and rising entrepreneurs about business development and finding one’s passion.
In 2007, L. Gale Lemerand, a successful Volusia County Entrepreneur and a long time supporter of Daytona State College, provided an Endowment to the Daytona State College Foundation to found the "L. Gale Lemerand Center for Entrepreneurship." As a component of this Center, the Entrepreneurial Speaker Series complements Daytona State's comprehensive educational programs such as the Bachelor of Applied Science Degree with a specialization in Entrepreneurship as well as programs and training offered by the Small Business Development Center.
Lemerand’s generous contribution will continue to bring to Daytona Beach a series of nationally recognized leaders in industry and government to inspire and educate students, faculty, staff and all residents of Volusia and Flagler counties. Previous presenters include S. Truett Cathy, Chick-fil-A Founder, and Mori Hosseini, chairman and CEO of ICI Homes.
The November 17 presentation takes place at the Ocean Center, 101 N. Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach, and is preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m.
Seating is limited. Reserve your seat today by calling the Small Business Development Center at (386) 506-4723.
