DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Oct. 28, 2009) - WDSC TV Channel 15, Daytona State College’s Public Broadcasting Station, will air a special edition of its local production “At Issue” that will focus on swine flu in the Central Florida region.
Hosted by Holly Smith, the 30-minute program will feature Dr. Bonnie Sorensen, director of the Volusia County Health Department, and Dr. Richard Duma, an infectious disease physician at Halifax Health. It will air on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. The program will be rebroadcast several times over the next few months, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
“There are many misconceptions about swine flu,” said station General Manager Bruce Dunn, “but some things are certain – it is a pandemic, there has been a dramatic surge in the number of U.S. swine flu cases, and it’s here in Central Florida. At Issue is the perfect forum, as part of our mission to educate and inform our viewers, to provide access to experts in the field who can present the facts about the H1N1 virus, its risks and measures people can take to minimize those risks.”
The program will cover such topics as at-risk populations, swine flu symptoms, prevention and vaccine information. Drs. Sorensen and Duma also will answer the top five questions posed by hotline callers to health department personnel statewide.
