DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 10, 2013) - Daytona State College presents the following calendar of events for February 2013.
Events are open to the public and free of charge, unless otherwise noted.
Fitness Center
Feb. 1 – 28, 11:15. a.m. – noon (Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays)
Aqua Aerobics “Stretch & Twist”
This water exercise program provides a total body workout for those of moderate to advanced fitness levels. Classes include exercises for aerobic conditioning, flexibility, and strength training. Aqua Aerobics offers a safe and refreshing way to exercise for all ages. Cost $3 per class.

Adult Learn to Swim
Offered by the Aquatic Center at Daytona State College, this eight session course is for non-swimmers and beginning swimmers who want to learn the basic stroke movements. Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays. Cost: $55.

Neck Pain, Headache and Arm Numbness Workshop
Hosted by the Fitness Center at Daytona State College, this free workshop with Thomas Orthopedic & Sports Physical Therapy will be presented by Cheryl J. Wynn, DPT. Free.

Feb. 12-17, Lifeguarding Couse
Whether you want to pursue as a season or career opportunity, the America Red Cross certified lifeguarding course offered at Daytona State College provides the necessary training to help individuals develop rescue skills and be trained in First Aid, CPR and AED. Participants will learn how to prevent accidents through knowledge of lifeguarding, proper use of equipment and realization of responsibilities. The course begins on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. with a pre-test activity in order to access ability to swim 300 yards and retrieve a brick from the bottom of the pool using a surface dive, three-hours of instruction immediate follow. The course continues on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 14, from 6 to 9 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 17, from 1 to 7 p.m. Course fee is $225 (discounted to $100 for Daytona State College students who have completed a lifeguard job application) and requires a $75 non-refundable deposit due by Feb. 8.
