DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 12, 2013) - Daytona State College presents the following calendar of events for September 2013.

Events are open to the public and free of charge, unless otherwise noted.

Sept. 
4-40 To 2-20 Pre-Licensing General Lines Conversion
Prerequisite-completed at least one year of responsible insurance duties as a licensed and appointed Customer Service Representative (4-40) in either commercial or personal lines of property and casualty insurance. No Classroom Required. This course is designed to prepare a student to become a licensed insurance property and casualty agent without the loss of production income and time. Work at your own pace with your instructor available via e-mail. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to sit for the state examination. This course is designed and taught to comply with the State requirmements for General Lines Agents State Examination. Topics covered include: Automobile, Property Insurance, Inland Marine, Crime, Workers Compensation, General Liability, Health Insurance, Aviation and State Law. 20-44 Pre-Licensing Personal Lines Agent
No Classroom Required. Take all 52 hours online! This course is designed to prepare a student to become a Personal Lines agent without the loss of production income and time. Work at your own pace with your instructor available via e-mail. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to sit for the state examination. This course is designed and taught to comply with the State requirements for Personal Lines Agents State examination. Pre-Licensing Life, Health & Variable Annuity
No Classroom required. Take 40 hours online based on the requirements of the Florida State exam outline. This course is designed for self motivated students with little time to attend classes and who have some basic computer skills. Approved by the Florida Department of Insurance and meets state requirements for those wanting to sit for the state exam. Manufacturing Fast-Track Program
Daytona State College’s Manufacturing Fast-Track Program can help you start building a technical career that offers good pay and growth opportunities. In this 11-week course you will develop an initial set of technical skills that can lead to certifications, internships and job interviews with our partnering manufacturing companies. This program is the first step in our 18-month to two-year Florida TRADE Program, and offers paths to certificate and A.S. degree programs at Daytona State College. Excel 2010, Basic
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this course teaches the basic functions and features of Excel 2010. After an introduction to spreadsheet terminology and Excel's window components, students will learn how to use the Help system and navigate worksheets and workbooks. Then they will enter and edit text, values, formulas, and pictures, and they will save workbooks in various formats. Students will also move and copy data, learn about absolute and relative references, and work with ranges, rows, and columns. This course also covers simple functions, basic formatting techniques, and printing. Finally, students will create and modify charts, and learn how to manage large workbooks. The course fee is $85 and includes a student workbook with a CD-ROM containing the lab files used in class.  The deadline to register for each course is one week prior to the course date.

Excel 2010, Intermediate
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this course builds on the skills and concepts taught in Excel 2010: Basic. Students will learn how to use multiple worksheets and workbooks efficiently, and they will start working with more advanced formatting options including styles, themes, and backgrounds. They will also learn how to create outlines and subtotals, how to create and apply cell names, and how to work with tables. Students will save workbooks as Web pages, insert and edit hyperlinks, and learn to share workbooks by email. This course also covers advanced charting techniques, use of trendlines and sparklines, worksheet auditing and protection, file sharing and merging, and workbook templates. Finally, students will learn to work with PivotTables and PivotCharts. The course fee is $85 and includes a student workbook with a CD-ROM containing the lab files used in class.  The deadline to register for each course is one week prior to the course date.

Sept. 19, 26, Oct. 3 & 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Skills for Supervising (A focus on People and Productivity)
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this four-session workshop is designed to develop supervisory skills. This workshop is very participative and fast moving. It combines short instruction periods, numerous group exercises, experience-sharing and role-playing to enhance the learning experience. The titles for some of the more than thirty workshop exercises include: Best Friend Now Works For Me, Good Worker Wants Out, He Is a Relative of The Owner and He is Always Late, Negative and Positive Impact People, Older Worker Retired on the Job, Getting Customer Requirements, Gantt Charts; Fish Bones, Weighted Voting, Defining Problems, Say it In a Gentler Way, Performance Feedback and Counseling. Class meets on consecutive Thursdays. Tuition is $295 per attendee.

Water Treatment Plant Operation Levels B & C, Module II
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College in conjunction with Florida Gateway College, this 100 percent online pre-licensure course is approved by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.  This module covers such topics  as EPA regulations for the treatment of water, safety measures utilized in the treatment of water, wastes associated with the treatment of water, iron and manganese removal, lime softening processes, fluoridation, and water regulations. Tuition: $148.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation Level C, Module II
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College in conjunction with Florida Gateway College, this 100 percent online pre-licensure course is approved by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.  This module covers such topics as activated sludge treatment of wastewater, type of wastewater treatment plants, nutrient removal process control and laboratory procedures.
