DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 18, 2015) - Daytona State College presents the following calendar of events for October 2015.

Events are open to the public and free of charge, unless otherwise noted.

Oct. 6, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Word 2010, Basic
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this course covers the basic functions and features of Word 2010. After an introduction to Word's window components, students will learn how to use the Help system and navigate documents. Then they will enter and edit text, create and save documents, and learn how to enhance the appearance of a document by using various formatting options. They will also create tables, insert headers and footers, proof and print documents, and insert graphics.
The course fee is $97 and includes a student workbook with a CD-ROM containing the lab files used in class. The deadline to register for each course is one week prior to the course date.

Skills for Supervising: A Focus on People and Productivity
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this workshop is participative and fast moving, combining short instruction periods, numerous group exercises, experience-sharing and role-playing to enhance the learning experience. The course benefits individual contributors, lead persons, supervisors, managers, vice presidents, presidents and business owners. Previous attendees have had responsibilities in human resources, office management, engineering, writing, safety, training, purchasing, sales, marketing, quality, construction, administration, production, security, hospitality, field operations, customer service and legal. Course fee: $295.

Word 2010, Intermediate
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this course builds on the skills and concepts taught in Word 2010: Basic. Students will work with styles, sections, and columns and will use the Navigation pane to work with outlines. They will format tables, print labels and envelopes, and work with graphics. They will also use document templates, manage document revisions, and work with Web features.
The course fee is $97 and includes a student workbook with a CD-ROM containing the lab files used in class. The deadline to register for each course is one week prior to the course date.

Oct. 19-Dec. 12, 4-10 p.m. (Monday-Thursday)
High Performance Engine Building
The Center for Business & Industry at Daytona State College presents an eight-week course led by Gordon Johnstone who has amassed more than 45 years of racing experience and worked for several years at Crane Cams in Daytona Beach. Johnstone has developed racing engines for different types of vehicles including drag cars, circle track cars, offshore powerboats and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Receiving 'hands-on' instruction in engine machining and assembly, this course is aimed at automotive enthusiasts, be it street rods, hot rods, late models, low-riders, modifieds, American muscle, or tuners. Learn how to increase engine performance (student's own engine), build a new engine or learn new skills using the college's program engines. The course fee is $750, payable in advance.

Word 2010, Advanced
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this course builds on the skills and concepts taught in Word 2010: Intermediate. Students will perform mail merges, create and use forms, and create master documents that include a table of contents, a table of figures, footnotes, endnotes, an index, bookmarks, cross-references, and Web frames. They will also create macros, customize the ribbon and Quick Access toolbar, and work with XML documents.
The course fee is $97 and includes a student workbook with a CD-ROM containing the lab files used in class. The deadline to register for each course is one week prior to the course date.

PowerPoint 2010, Basic
Presented by the Center for Business and Industry at Daytona State College, this course covers the basic functions and features of PowerPoint 2010. After an introduction to PowerPoint's window components and Help system, students will learn to create, save, and rearrange presentations. Then they will format text, use drawing objects, work with graphics, and insert tables and charts. They will then learn to use templates and themes, slide masters, and transition effects. Finally, students will learn to proof, run, and print presentations.
The course fee is $97 and includes a student workbook with a CD-ROM containing the lab files used in class. The deadline to register for each course is one week prior to the course date.
