Fresh Start is a 3-week daytime course with the aim to teach participants how to enhance their lives by building self-esteem, managing stress, establishing goals, and exploring career opportunities. The Fresh Start course will also provide participants with the proper skills and tools to effectively write a resume, apply and interview for jobs, and research additional educational opportunities to prepare for a new beginning. Various seminars and workshops are also available to Fresh Start participants including topics addressing financial management and stress management.

Who Is Eligible? The Fresh Start Program serves individuals who
- Have worked in the home, providing unpaid household services for family members
- Are not adequately employed
- Are having difficulty securing adequate employment
- Have been dependent on the income of a family member, but not currently supported by them; or have been dependent on federal assistance
- Are 35 years of age or older
Participants in the Fresh Start Program will
- Explore career and educational options
- Learn healthy coping skills
- Develop personal awareness
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- Master the art of finding, obtaining, and keeping a job
- Develop financial awareness and personal planning
- Learn job search tools
Offered on an as-needed basis is a 30 hour evening class called WAND (Women Achieving New Directions) to help individuals find career focus. Dates will be posted above when scheduled.
The Fresh Start Program is funded through a grant from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and supported by Daytona State College.
