College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST)
The College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) is the state of Florida’s exit requirement for students pursuing an Associates of Arts Degree (A.A.) and planning on transferring to the upper division at a Florida state university. To earn an A.A. degree, you must satisfy the CLAST requirement.
As of July 1, 2009 the CLAST will be eliminated. There are several methods by which students may satisfy the CLAST requirement other than taking the exam.
CLAST ALTERNATIVES:There are other ways that you may satisfy CLAS requirements called ALTERNATIVES. You may not need to take the READING, ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS or ESSAY PORTION of the CLAST if:
College-Level Communication: Earn a 2.5 grade point average in two (2) courses for a minimum of six (6) semester hours of credit from a combination of at least one (1) course with the ENC prefix and any other course that is designated as a “Gordon Rule” writing course (excluding courses with the SPC prefix) or have a CPT score of 93 on the Reading and 105 on the Writing; a SAT score of 500 on the verbal or an ACT score of 22 on the reading and 21 on the English. (Exemption via waiver for students with a prior documented specific learning disability is possible.)
A “Gordon Rule writing course” will consist of any standard Gordon Rule course designated in tha AA program listing EXCEPT Mathematics Core courses, Science Core courses, and Health and Wellness Core courses.
College-Level Computation: Earn a 2.5 grade point average in two (2) courses for a minimum of six (6) semester hours of credit from: MAC 1105 or any other MAC course with the last three digits higher than 105; MGF 2106, 2107, or STA 2023; or have a CPT score of 91 on the Elementary Algebra, a SAT score of 500 on the math or an ACT score of 21 on the math. (Exemption via waiver for students with a prior documented specific learning disability is possible.)
If you meet the qualifications for an alternative, Daytona State will automatically waive the requirement via computer. You will receive a notice when this has been completed.
CLAST WaiversAny student who has taken any of the four subtests of the CLAST at least four times or is registered with Student Disability Services at Daytona State College and has a documented disability may apply for a waiver. The CLAST Waiver Committee will review the request and will determine whether a waiver shall be granted. Students may fill out a CLAST Waiver Petition in the Q & A or Assessment Services department on any campus.
