Individuals interested in becoming a teacher in the state of Florida must complete the appropriate bachelor's and/or master's degree required for the level and discipline.

Teachers who want to take courses for teacher re-certification and know what courses they need to meet their requirements must complete the enrollment process below. Applicants must contact the Certification Specialist in their county educational system for information about necessary courses and approval of courses before registering. Daytona State College cannot determine or recommend courses required for recertification.

If you are a changing careers, a college graduate of a non-education program, or a high school graduate considering teaching, please complete the enrollment steps outlined below.

·         adding a subject or endorsement

·         renewing a Florida Professional Certificate

·         reinstating an expired Florida Professional Certificate

·         an out-of-state certified teacher or administrator

·         graduate of a teacher education program

Enrollment Steps:

  • Submit an application for admission, either online or download the printable version
  • submit official, final high school transcripts or GED scores in a sealed envelope from issuing institution.
  • Apply for financial aid. The priority application period is in April/May prior to the start of classes, but late applications are always accepted. Processing takes 3-4 weeks, and should be completed as soon as college enrollment is contemplated.
  • Complete  the New Student Orientation online. All new students pursuing a degree or certificate program need to complete the orientation requirement prior to registration.
  • Complete placement requirements. All new students admitted to a degree or certificate program must complete assessment requirements. The College Placement Test (CPT – College Board Accuplacer) is the assessment used for associate degree programs.  Students entering certificate programs are assessed using the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).  Click here for more information on these tests and to review sample questions.  You can also satisfy these test requirements if you provide documentation of acceptable achievement using SAT or ACT scores which are less than two years old.
  • Meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss placement results and program requirements.
  • Register for classes.
  • Pay for classes.
  • Obtain student ID and parking decal from Campus Safety.
  • Purchase books for your classes.
