A First Time in College student is one who has not attended college or a university after earning their high school diploma or GED.

A dual enrollment student is a student who attends a public school, eligible private school, or home school Volusia or Flagler counties.

A transfer student is a student who has earned credits at another institution and wishes to now attend Daytona State College.

A returning student is a student who previously attended Daytona State College and who has not attended the school within the last year. If you are a returning student you will need to submit a new admissions application.

A special credit (non-matriculated) student is one who enrolls in courses to upgrade career skills, takes courses for personal enrichment, or enrolls in courses for the purpose of transferring to another institution. Special Credit students must meet all course placement and prerequisite requirements.

A transient student is one who enrolls in two colleges simultaneously. A transient student may be admitted and enrolled at another college or university, but concurrently taking a course or courses at Daytona State College to fulfill the other college's requirements. Many students use this option because their "home" college or university does not offer the course, does not offer the course at a time convenient for them, or they are in the Daytona Beach area for an extended period of time. 

An international student is a student who is not a US citizen or permanent resident who wish to enroll for courses at a US school, college, or university and are admitted in a temporary student visa. These students primary intent is to earn a degree and return to their home country. International student must provide specific documentation in order fo the institution it provide them an I-20.

An adult education student is looking to improve their basic reading and math skills, earn their GED®, or develop their English language skills. Students develop the skills needed to successfully progress into college-level or career training programs.

A continuing education student is one who is looking for a short-term career training program, ongoing continuing education courses often required for professionals, and opportunities to learn a new skill at any age.
