Department Introduction
The college offers the opportunity for two years of
study in five foreign languages: French, German,
Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. You also can
study two years of American Sign Language.
Completion of two years of the same foreign
language in high school, or eight college credits
of the same foreign language, is part of the AA
degree requirements. A state-of-the-art, Internetready
multi-media language laboratory, located
in the Academic Support Center on the Daytona
Beach Campus, affords additional resources to
successfully learn a second language. The School
of Modern Language Studies sponsors a variety
of social and cultural activities throughout the
semester to enhance your experience.
Activities include:
Film Series: Foreign films in their original
language with subtitles in English.
International Dinner: Students can sample foods
from different parts of the world and learn about
other cultures and customs.
Conversation Partners: American and
international students can sign up for a
conversation partner to practice language skills
and develop cultural awareness.
