Welcome to Daytona State College EMS!

We offer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic courses every semester.

Frequently Asked Questions

For information on refresher classes, BLS, ACLS classes (etc.), please visit the Institute for EMS Education. These classes are not offered through the EMS department. 


STEP ONE TO APPLY FOR ALL FALL EMS CLASSES: You must be 18 and a high school graduate, or have a GED prior to applying for EMT classes.  If you are applying for Paramedic classes, you must have completed an EMT class within the state of Florida prior to applying.  


 Application Preference

An early application window will be made available only to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Agency sponsored students with an agency sponsorship letter
  • Agency employed students needing licensure for advancement opportunities
  • Current DSC Fire Program Students (must successfully complete Fire program and adhere to all EMT application submittal deadlines to keep preferred seating in EMT)

Application preference will be honored until the application window opens for candidates not meeting the aforementioned criteria. Once the general application window is open, seat availability goes on a first come, first serve basis to ALL applicants (with completed applications) regardless of status.

 Application Deadline has been extended to Friday, June 29, 2018, OR until classes are full (whichever comes first). Only completed applications will be accepted by the EMS department

Accreditation / Approval Information

Standard II.C.Minimum Expectations: PARAMEDIC - Our program Goal is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency medical Responder levels.

The Daytona State College EMS Program is approved by the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, as meeting all requirements of Florida Statute Section 401 and Florida Administrative Code 64-J-1 for EMS Training Centers in Florida.

The Daytona State College Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs  (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP)
