Dr. Alireza Rahrooh joined Daytona State College in 2010, where he is a senior professor of engineering technology and the Program Coordinator of Electrical Concentration of Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology. He has also served as a faculty member at the University of Central Florida for 16, Pennsylvania State University for 6 years, and worked in industry as a control engineer for 5 years. He received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Akron, Ohio, in 1979, 1986, and 1990 respectively. He has played a key role in promoting emerging technologies, research and education in electrical engineering by introducing and integrating a variety of hardware and software into the undergraduate and graduate curricula. He also has developed several undergraduate and graduate courses in the electrical engineering field. Rahrooh’s contributions have been recognized by the faculty and administration; he has received 30 awards in teaching, advising, research and services since he joined academia in 1988, such as University Excellence Teaching Award at UCF, American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Mid-Career Teaching Award, State of Florida University Teaching Incentive Program (TIP) Award, and Faculty Spotlight at UCF just to name a few.
Rahrooh has multi-disciplinary expertise in electrical engineering, mathematics, and computational methods. He has published 19 highly respected refereed journal articles (4 of these articles won the American Society for Engineering Education awards for the best article on computational methods), 90 refereed conference proceedings papers, and 10 technical reports. He has attended 120 educational conferences/workshops. He has presented his research in numerous conferences and given 52 presentations at scholarly meetings. He has been PI or a Co-PI of 40 research proposals in excess of over two million dollars including equipment and software donations. He has been the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Campus Rep. for DSC and UCF since 2001. He is also a member of the ASEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), International Society for Computer and Applications (ISCA), International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED), Eta Kappa Nu in recognition of excellent scholarship, and served ABET as a program evaluator. Furthermore, He is licensed in Solar and Photovoltaic Technology and he has Conducted workshops on Installing PhotovoltaicSystems at ATC campus for local Solar Contractors.
