Joely Cabrera, Daytona State's freshmen outside hitter, was named FCSAA Player of the Week for her outstanding performance for week five. Cabrera led the Falcons with 29 kills in their win over 10th ranked Miami-Dade on Saturday. Along with her 29 kills she provided a strong defensive presence against the Sharks dynamic offense, adding 17 digs for the Falcons.

In addition to her personal best performance against Miami-Dade, Cabrera put up big numbers against the Falcons other opponents last week. Tuesday, in a Mid-Florida Conference showdown with College of Central Florida, Cabrera had 21 kills and 22 digs in a heartbreaking 5 set loss to the Patriots.

Last week, Cabrera recorded 87 kills, 52 digs, and 7 blocks overall. The Falcons are currently 13-9 on the season, and 1-1 in Mid-Florida Conference play. The win against Miami-Dade earned the Falcons a 5th place ranking in the FCSAA Region. The Falcons take on conference opponent Florida State College at Jacksonville on Thursday at 7pm in the G. Lemerand Center on the Daytona State campus.
