Women's Volleyball - Solid Start for Daytona State Falcons
Daytona State Volleyball is demonstrating that they are a force to be reckoned with. Currently 11-8 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-Florida Conference, the Falcons have had opportunities to knock off programs with a steep tradition and national NJCAA ranking.
Saturday, September 21st, the Lady Falcons lost a tight five game match with 17th ranked State College of Florida. The Falcons took an early 2-0 lead on State College of Florida before dropping the next two sets. Tied 2-2, the Falcons jumped to an early lead, but were derailed after freshmen outside hitter, Joely Cabrera went down with an injury. Daytona State lost game five 14-16.
Mid-Florida Conference play resumed Tuesday, September 24th, as the Falcons took on top ranked conference opponent College of Central Florida (ranked 13th in NJCAA). On the road, the Falcons took on the high charged offense of the Patriots. The Falcons lost a heartbreaker in a five game set to the Patriots, marking their first conference loss. The Falcons were led by freshmen Joely Cabrera with 21 kills and 22 digs on the match. The team looks forward to a rematch with Central Florida when they host the Patriots at the Lemerand Center on October 15th at 7pm.
