Women's Basketball - Exciting Start to Falcon Volleyball
The Falcons opened their season at home with two special guests in the stands as they took on Indian River for their first ever home volleyball match for the college. Daytona State hosted four-time Olympian and gold medalist, Lloy Ball, and his father IPFW men’s volleyball coach and AVCA Hall of Fame Coach, Arnie Ball, on this special night for Falcon athletics. The Lady Falcons had an opportunity to seek volleyball insight from two of the greatest and the inspiration was evident, as the Falcons won their first home match in an exciting five game set.
Since then, the Falcons have been proving to their opponents that they are a force to be reckoned with. A team of all freshmen have managed a fast start that has earned them immediate respect from some of the best programs in the state. The young Falcon team, currently 11-8 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-Florida Conference, have assumed some big wins on the season and have challenged some of the nation’s most respected programs taking them to five game matches.
“I am extremely proud of the work, commitment, and discipline that these young ladies have shown thus far. They are committed to making Daytona State Volleyball a program that competes at a high level. I am extremely excited about the season, and the direction the program is headed,” commented Head Coach, Laura Stegall on the program’s early success.
The Falcons have begun Mid-Florida Conference play and will be challenged to claim one of the top two spots in the Mid-Florida Conference to be able to advance to post season play November 8th in the Florida Regional.
