Preparing for the August opener for volleyball season, Daytona State signed its first Falcon volleyball team members on Nov. 1 with 11 high school seniors. The young women came with their families to the Daytona Beach Campus from across the state and as far away as Puerto Rico to sign volleyball letters of intent.
Welcoming the players and their parents, volleyball coach Laura Stegall and athletic director Will Dunne talked to them about the life of student-athletes at the college and the thrill of being the inaugural team. During the ceremony, each student signed their letter, and joined in a reception.
The players who signed included middle hitters Lauren Vanderveer (Melbourne Eua Gallie), Rachel Barker (Geneva), Kori Jacot (Naples Barron Collier) and Gabi Meyer (Atlantic); outside hitters Halle Dotson (Merritt Island), Kayla Carr (Niceville), Khiani Kelly (Lithia Newsome) and Joely Cabrero (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico); setters Caitlin Conner (Lakeland) and Danielle Klein (Merritt Island); and libero Shelby Jelinek (Viera).
