Our first use of the Prize Wheel
November 21st 2013
The Annual Great American Smoke Out (GASO) was a challenge due to the intense rain but we still managed to remove 2,700 cigarette butts! Northeast Florida AHEC had a prize wheel and gave out items for those answering trivia questions.
April 11th, 2013
The Spring Cigarette Butt Pick-Up and Earth Day event yielded approximately 9,000 butts removed from the grounds of the Daytona Beach Campus and lower amounts at other branch campuses. Thanks so much to all who helped!
During the 2012 Cigarette Butt Pick-Up and Earth Day event students, student-athletes, staff and members of the Volusia County Health Department removed 15,000 butts from the Daytona Beach Campus in one hour alone. The dental hygiene students from the DeLand campus were also successful at their pick-up event.
The Great American Smokeout
The 2012 Great American Smokeout was a success!
In two hours students and employees picked up approximately 13,500 used cigarette butts off the Daytona Beach Campus alone.
Cigarette Butt Cleanup 2011
Follow us on the Daytona State College Environmental Club Facebook
We usually do our cigarette butt clean ups on the weekend when it's quiet, but this one, we want everyone to see! Let's all try to wear red so people see us. This event coincides with Tobacco Free Florida's quit smoking week. At our last clean up we collected 10,000 cigarette butts!
Cigarette Butt Clean up Results 2010
Fall Tobacco Survey Results
The results are in! This Environmental Club and other volunteers picked up 10,536 butts for this year's clean up. That's a grand total of approximately 25,000 cigarette butts picked up by the environmental club so far! Way to go!

Do You Know Your CO?
A CO test is like a breathalyzer for smokers, but it measures the carbon monoxide in your body. Free CO test by appointment at the Fitness Center, Building 310. Please call 506-4FIT to schedule a CO test. For more information check out our flyer.
No Butts Program
The No Butts Program will take place in Volusia and Flagler counties at Daytona State College’s six campuses from July 2010 through June 2011. Students, employees, and the community will be provided various opportunities by way of free events, educational and outreach materials, and training programs to increase their awareness of the negative health and environmental effects of tobacco. Surveys will be utilized to understand needs and interest in a tobacco-free campus as well as measure knowledge acquired throughout the year by the various activities and efforts of the No Butts Program. This grant proposal on behalf of Daytona State College is a collaborative effort on the part of the following departments and clubs:
- School of Health, Human and Public Services
- School of Health & Wellness
- Student Government Association
- Environmental, Dental, and Respiratory Clubs
- and Counseling Services
to increase tobacco cessation awareness opportunities for the students and employees as well as begin formulating a five year plan for the implementation of a tobacco-free campus initiative.
