"Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government"
The Daytona State College Center for Women and Men Advisory Board will celebrate the work and achievements of women and their families during their annual luncheon recognizing National Women's History Month on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from noon to 1:30 p.m. The luncheon will be held in the Hosseini Center (bldg. 1200) on the Daytona Beach Campus, 1200 West International Speedway Blvd.
The honoree for the 2016 DSC Center for Women and Men’s Annual Women's History Luncheon is Judge Judith Davidson. Daytona Beach’s own Judge Judy began her career as a Spanish school teacher and entered private practice in 1984 climbing the ladder from legal assistant to law clerk. After graduating with honors from the University of Florida Frederic G. Levin College of Law in 1987, she returned to teaching as a professor of law. In 2002, Judge Judy became Assistant Public Defender to the Seventh Judicial Circuit and Flagler County Division Chief to the Public Defender’s Office.
During her years as an attorney, Judge Davidson started her own legal advice clinic and provided over 200 hours of pro bono work a year to needy citizens in Volusia and Flagler Counties. She also did pro bono work to help women recovering from addiction. In addition to providing legal advice, Judy also volunteered every week in a food pantry. In 2012, Judge Davidson was appointed Volusia County Judge. She currently presides on the criminal docket and over DUI Court, a Specialty Court designed to help chronic substance abusers through intensive treatment and court intervention to provide tools for a successful and sober life.
Judge Judy is the community service chair for the Daytona Beach West Rotary Club, serves on the Board for Avenues 12 and Take Stock in Children. She is a Take Stock mentor and a reading buddy to a Turie T 2nd grader and also volunteers with the Volusia County Teen Court Program.
